As of 31 August 2022, Google will modify the Google Assistant service on IFTTT (if this, then that). Existing Google Assistant Applets will be archived, and Google will delete service connection information.
The new version of the Google Assistant service is available on IFTTT. However, due to the platform changes made by Google, there isn’t a direct migration path for existing Applets.
What does this mean to users?
It means existing custom trigger phrases like “OK Google, Blink the lights” will now need an additional trigger phrase like “OK Google, Activate Blink the lights”. Authentication on the IFTTT website or mobile apps will now only work on mobile devices and require the users to download the Google Home app and initiate activation from the “Works with Google” section under Settings.
The custom Google Assistant responses to the trigger phrases set up by users through IFTTT are no longer supported. Existing Google Assistant triggers that allow for variable input (example: Say a phrase with a number) will no longer be supported.
Millions of people have connected Google Assistant to IFTTT and enabled thousands of Applets, ranging from funny party tricks to helping increase accessibility within their smart home.
In a release, IFTTT apologises for the inconveniences this upcoming change may bring. It mentioned that the company would continue working closely with the Google team.
